For this shoot there was no definitive plan but there was an urge to find a location inspired by weather forecast. The patch of bush land abandoned due to the closed old gate of the Dumna airport now enjoys minimal human activity. The location was a dense thicket with native plants and plenty of cover, which was at its prime due to the monsoon.
There were cattle enjoying fresh grass, squirrels, birds, bees, butterflies and perhaps may be a resting leopard as this territory falls under the Dumna Nature Park buffer zone. It was a vast area with bushes that grew denser the further you went. During the recording I tried walking deeper inside along the cattle tracks but an uneasy feeling crept in, so I stayed within safe limits and tried my best to capture a sight and atmosphere that words and recording cannot fully justify.
The bushes pleased the senses with the wild fragrance of Lantana flowers, while at the same time making me think that Lantana is a beauty and beast bush, which is indeed very attractive and it’s so dominating that it almost wipes out other species of plants and bush where it spreads, which invariably destroys the local natural ecosystem.
The sound recording is natural but from a different location which was recorded for this video – matching the natural conditions, the onsite sound quality was not good due to continuous earth work in the distance.
Location of filming: Adjoining to the old (closed) Dumna airport gate in Jabalpur, M.P. India.
Equipment/software used: tripod, iPhone 17 pro, video captured in cinematic mode, Resolution/4K, Frame rate/24, edited to slow-mo using i movie, sound captured with inbuilt omni-directional mics in stereo mode.
